Welcome letter from Mrs. White

As we start into our new school year, I would like to welcome all our pupils back and extend a warm welcome to our new 2nd class. After what was a very pleasant summer, our pupils are now back into full learning mode and we hope to have a busy and exciting year in St. Oliver Plunkett BNS. Our focus this year is to ensure all children who attend our school are given every opportunity to reach their full potential. We value each child and encourage inclusion throughout our school.

The relationship our school has with our parents and the wider community is very strong and I hope that we build on this during the year as it is with good communication and cooperation that great things can be achieved.

This year we will be involved in a wide variety of activities. We hope that all children will participate fully in school life. Our new school website is up and running. We are still in the infancy stage with it so be patient as we develop it during the year.

Thanks to the continued support from our wonderful Parents Association we have been able to purchase new Gaeilge reading books for all our classes. This year we will be focusing on Oral language and reading and we hope the children will make great strides in their gaeilge as a result.

I would  encourage  parents to become actively involved in our Parents Association if at all possible, as the continued support given to the school by the P.A.  is greatly appreciated. The AGM will take place in the coming weeks.  Date and time to be confirmed.

We encourage close communication with parents/guardians. If a parent/guardian  wishes to meet with a class teacher or the principal please make an appointment to do so with our school secretary. As a teaching principal it is not possible to meet parents without prior notice. Our school secretary works on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.20am-2.20pm.

We will continue to run the ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection this year and we ask that if you have bags of clothes you wish to recycle they can be dropped into the school at any time.

Our school starts at 9.20am. Children are not permitted on the school grounds before 9am.  Please contact the Principal if you need to discuss this further.

I would like to welcome our new S.N.A. Gena Smith to our school. She is a welcome addition to our staff and I wish her the very best for the year ahead.  I would also like to congratulate Mr. Daly for his recent appointment as permanent class teacher and wish him and all the staff of St. Oliver Plunkett B.N.S. every success for the year ahead.

My hope for the coming year is for all children who attend our school to  enjoy school life, participate in everything that is offered and engage in a positive way in their daily learning. Above all, I encourage every child to be kind, considerate and respectful to everyone they encounter during their school day.

Best wishes for the year ahead.

Sinéad White,

Principal.
